A pre-formulated medium designed for the rooting stage of aroid tissue culture.
Formulated with MS nutrients, sucrose and IBA as a convenient starting formulation for the rooting stage.
From shoots to roots.
The rooting stage is the final major stage of the in-vitro propagation workflow before plantlets can be prepared for acclimatization.
Aroid Rooting Medium uses a half-strength MS formulation together with sucrose and IBA (rooting hormone). The result is a dedicated formulation for the rooting stage, without requiring you to prepare the individual components yourself.
Designed for Aroids
Developed as a general starting formulation for commonly propagated aroids, including:
Monstera · Philodendron · Alocasia · Anthurium · Epipremnum
Different species and cultivars can respond differently to the same formulation. Culture conditions and explant characteristics can also influence results.
When should I use Rooting Medium?
Use Rooting Medium after the multiplication stage when suitable shoots or plantlets are ready to enter the rooting stage.
Formulation
Each litre of prepared medium contains:
| Component | Concentration |
|---|---|
| ½-strength MS + vitamins | 2.25 g/L |
| Sucrose | 20 g/L |
| IBA | 0.5 mg/L |
The formulation is supplied as a dry powder.
Agar is not included. [Agar→]

Preparation
Recipe for 1 liter finished solution:
- Measure 22.2g of rooting media (34.5g for Establishment and Multiplication media).
- Add 800ml of distilled/deionized water, dissolve thoroughly
- Adjust pH to 5.6-5.8 pH. Use pH meter or strips.
- Slowly add 7-8g of agar if a solid medium is desired, heat to dissolve.
- Fill the remaining 200ml for a total volume of 1L medium.
- When fully dissolved, pour in to culture jars and sterilize the prepared medium using an autoclave/pressure cooker.
- Allow the medium to cool before introducing plant material.
This recipe is based on achieving 1 liter of finished media solution. If less/more is desired, make sure to adjust all ingredients accordingly.
Always follow the preparation instructions supplied with the product.
